So one of my favourite stims is stargazing. It does overlap with a passion; I love the solar system and outer space. I even love it from like a mythology standpoint and how the solar system and the planets have been interpreted by past cultures and civilizations, all of it, so it definitely overlaps like a special interest. But there’s also very unique feel for me when I watch stars. When I look up at the sky and see them sparkling, it almost feels like I have a mirrored map reflected within me and I can feel them as they glisten and glimmer in the night.
So tomorrow morning at around 4 am, my time, the Lyrid meteor shower peaks and so I am planning to go out and watch it and right now I’m actually on a zoom call, but I’m muted, and I’m reading more about the Lyrids.

So visual stims in general are some of my favourites. Stargazing is perhaps at the top of the list and it relates to my sensory profile in that way, that I am totally a seeker in many ways, seeking movement and activity and input in that way, but also pleasant sounds, sights, smells and in particular when they occur naturally in nature, like water, how it moves in the ocean or in a river or stream and how it sounds, but especially how it looks. The stars flickering in the night sky or soaring across the night sky in this case. They are all very soothing things to me. They level out my energy and I feel them very deeply inside of me, so this is just one of my favourite stims, but since it was happening and this was the peak of it, I had to choose it. Plus it’s Earth Day, it all made a logical sense, which is another favourite thing of mine, so it was perfect.
The Reframing Autism team would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we have the privilege to learn, work, and grow. Whilst we gather on many different parts of this Country, the RA team walk on the land of the Amangu, Awabakal, Bindjareb, Birpai, Whadjak, Wiradjuri and Yugambeh peoples.
We are committed to honouring the rich culture of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this Country, and the diversity and learning opportunities with which they provide us.
