Our Children’s Books

Teaching children about Autism

We believe that knowledge is power, and we want to see a world where Autistic children grow up learning that their brains are awesomely different. We want Autistic children to learn how wonderfully strong they are, how beautifully unique, and how completely whole they are.

Reframing Autism is different. We are a charity run by Autistic people, for Autistic people, and for our families and allies. Everything we do is informed by our own personal lived experiences as Autistic individuals ourselves, who love, work with, support and parent other Autistic people. But we also look to the most innovative, respectful, inclusive research, coproduced with the Autistic community, to supplement our knowledge and experiential expertise.

This combination of lived experience and research means that Reframing Autism offers a respectful, affirming, and evidence-informed approach to Autism.

Remarkable Remy Autistic Children's Book Dr Melanie Heyworth Australia Reframing Autism

Remarkable Remy

Remarkable Remy is a warm and optimistic story that introduces an Autistic character to a young audience. The story helps explain the Autistic brain – how it works a little differently and how unique it is – and how our neurodivergent friends make the world remarkable!

My best friend’s name is Remy. I think Remy is remarkable.
Remy is Autistic. That means Remy’s brain works differently to my brain.

I love that Remy is different to me, because Remy can teach me new ways to experience the world.

A picture book for both Autistic and non-Autistic readers aged 3 and up, Remarkable Remy illuminates the experiences and strengths of Autistic people, and the joys of having Autistic friends.

I wish this was around when I was young. As an Autistic mom of an Autistic daughter, I’ve dreaded the day that she comes home from school asking why she’s different from others in her class. This is a beautiful and poignant answer to that question that I’m glad I found in advance. I just wish it was around when I was growing up!

Great for a kid with autism I have returned a lot of books for kids about autism as they didn’t send a message I wanted to read to my son. This book talks about traits that autistic kids may, or may not, have. It talks about how not every autistic person has the same traits or how certain sensitivities can affect even autistic people differently from each other. It was kind and didn’t make their differences sound like a burden under the surface. This this one is a keeper
